It’s easy to talk a big game on the internet when you’re anonymous and nobody can hold you to account. Such circumstances are how you end up with people who claim to be building an 11,000-gallon shark tank in their homes, only to have people responding with “Can’t tell if real or April Fools joke…”

The joke’s on them, however, because OP delivered five years after they first posted about their plans in the r/Aquariums subreddit. They even created their own subreddit where they posted progress updates, which is how we now have ample photo and video footage of just how much work goes into building a shark tank for your house. It’s a lengthy, multistep process, and they document it all, including planning the interior using Play-Doh and the two-year wait while the family saved more money to continue the project.

The end result is indeed spectacular, and the tank is home to all kinds of marine life, including several small sharks. There’s an entire room dedicated to filtration technology, which is undoubtedly a necessity with a tank this large.

OP was also kind enough to share photos of other ways they renovated their home, and yes, they’re as rich as you think. According to OP, he’d been planning this home since childhood, and “the first draft looked like a dinosaur.”

Let this be a lesson that when someone tells you they’re building an 11,000-gallon shark tank in their home, believe them — they might even be kind enough to invite you over for a swim.
