When we listed Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 as the sixth best game of all-time, we had good reason for it. The early games in the series were monumental for their time, introducing millions of young people to the life of grinding on rails while listening to Rage Against the Machine.

But like many games of its age, it hasn't translated well into the new generation where arcade-style games don't do very well. Put simply, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5,and even Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, were straight garbage.

At some level that makes us rethink how we enjoyed the early games. But really it speaks to how game design and consumer tastes have changed so dramatically.

Not only is this guy the designer of the first three great games, but also the three after that haven't fared so well.

After the horrendous sales of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater the series has been shelved for the foreseeable future. Fans of skateboarding games are currently putting pressure on EA to make a Skate 4, but EA hasn't budged. Thankfully, there's a Kickstarter project that's aiming for the same thing called Session.
