Xbox One X green.

In just under a month Sea of Thieves is coming out beginning Microsoft's big campaign for 2018. A lot is at stake given Xbox currently trails behind Nintendo and PlayStation by a large margin, making this a big moment in its timeline. Thankfully, not only does it have the most powerful console in the world, the Xbox One X is now hitting discount prices that is turning it from a tough sell to the kind of thing that gamers want to bring home to their living room.

Newegg is currently offering $100 gift cards with purchase of the Xbox One X. Meanwhile, eBay is selling several hundred units of the Xbox One X at $459.99, and is throwing in a $50 gift card with purchase. This brings the total effective price down to around $399, which is $100 less than the previous best price. Oh, and there's no tax on immediate purchase plus free shipping. Impressive.

As we covered during its launch last year, the Xbox One X is a monster. Its slim frame packs a punch with an eight-core 2.3GHz CPU with a GPU capable of displaying beautiful gaming characters in 4K resolution. In-fact, its performance is a step up from Sony's PS4 Pro by a whopping 33% to 45%.

The only problem is that Microsoft has fallen behind tragically when it comes to first-party software. Yes, Xbox continues to run multi-platform games like Assassin's Creed and Madden, but when you consider PS4 and Switch are getting several exclusive games every month, it's tough to defend the Xbox One.

But if you're the kind of person who spends most of the time playing multiplatform games, this isn't necessarily a big issue. And there are some smaller details about the Xbox ecosystem that make it worth owning, namely the controller and operating system.
