In America, our police are kitted to the gills. It’s not uncommon to see an American police officer rolling by in something resembling a tank, or holding weapons that previously hadn’t been seen outside of war zones.

However, over in Germany, this isn’t always the case. Blame it on the country’s history with figures of authority (you can Google it — pretty bad!) or just a failure of their government to do things efficiently, but police in the country’s southern state of Bavaria are complaining that they’re having trouble getting items they need, like uniforms. As a result, they’re staging a protest — by dropping their pants.

According to Deutsche Welle, a group of police officers in the region recently posted a video where they complain about their inability to buy new uniforms. In the video, one officer complains that they’ve been waiting four months for the ability to buy new uniform items, while the other counters that they’ve been waiting six months. They then exit the car to reveal that they’re not wearing pants.

“Bavaria’s police are ‘stripping bare’ and could literally be left standing without trousers,” explains Jürgen Köhnlein, chairman of the Bavarian DPolG. He also stresses that the video is “unfortunately not an April Fools’ Day joke” and that the problem is “nothing to laugh about.”

Buddy, you just showed me two cops without pants — I’m going to laugh!

While the Interior Ministry has claimed that “supply bottlenecks” caused the issues in sourcing pants, they also state that they plan on moving manufacturing back to their country in order to prevent issues like this from happening in the future.

Then again, maybe the police officers could just get some new pants on Amazon and take it out of their organization’s $4.3 billion budget. I’m sure the people of Bavaria will understand.
