Earlier this morning, a cargo ship named, Felicity Ace, carrying more than 1,000 sports cars caught fire and is burning somewhere in the Atlantic ocean. The ship was moving past an island off the coast of Portugal when the fire broke out. There were around 22 crew members on board who were all "in good health" according to the Portuguese Navy, who rescued the crew shortly after the fire broke out.

The ship has been burning in the middle of the ocean since Wednesday, and Snowcape Car Carriers, the company in charge of shipping the cars, says they have a salvage crew coming to clean up the wreckage on Friday.

Porsche released this statement shortly after the incident was reported, "Our immediate thoughts are of relief that the 22 crew of the merchant ship 'Felicity Ace' are safe and well. We are in contact with the shipping company and the details of the cars onboard are now known. While it remains too early to confirm what occurred and next steps, we are – along with our colleagues at Porsche AG – supporting our customers and our dealers as best we can to find solutions."

It's unknown how the fire started, but Porsche was not the only car company that had cars on the Felicity Ace. Volkswagen also reached out to the shipping company to get more information on the incident.

Good thing it was only cars and not anything important that was lost to the fire. It's not looking too good for the environment though.
