With the sudden passing of one of the cinema's most iconic leading men today, many were quick to pay tribute to Ray Liotta and the indelible impact he left on film. Having spent decades working on many roles beyond the prototypical gangster character he became synonymous with, Liotta's death has brought an outpouring of sadness and heartfelt grief over his loss.

Liotta reportedly passed away in his sleep in the Dominican Republic at the age of 67, dying in his sleep. The actor was there working on an upcoming film, Dangerous Waters. He is survived by his fiancee, Jacy Nittolo; his adult daughter and actress Karsen Liotta, and his sister Linda Liotta Matthews.

Liotta lives on in his memory and through the many hours of film he leaves behind; performances that, according to Liotta, only came to be because a pretty girl had happened to say he give plays a shot in college. Otherwise, he told the Guardian last year, he "thought he'd be in construction."
