While the fact that Doom is coming to the Nintendo Switch is great news for anyone who's ever wanted to shoot demons while sitting on the toilet, there's a big caveat.


Bethesda has confirmed that the Switch game cartridge will only come with Doom's single-player campaign on it. If you plan to head into multiplayer and duke it out with other noobs, it's going to cost you.

The multiplayer will only be offered as a download through the Nintendo eShop, and it'll be a whopping 9GB in size.


Considering that all Switch consoles only come with 32GB of storage, and mandatory system files take up a fair portion of that, you're looking at roughly 1/3rd or more of your storage being eaten up by Doom's multiplayer. 




Bethesda had the option to use 32GB cartridges during, which would have been able to fit both the 16GB campaign and 9GB multiplayer. However, those cost a few extra bucks to manufacture , meaning the company would have lost out on additional revenue on a game that might not even do all that well on the Switch.

Considering that Doom's multiplayer isn't all that popular, Bethesda chose to go with the money option.
