The DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) was first released in 1996 while the DVD player had to wait a year. DVDs revolutionized the way we watch movies. So obviously with people buying and renting films on a disc, companies needed to find ways to market and distribute these things.

One idea was to create a tag or slogan for movies. I'm just spitballing here. Jackass "The extreme titty-twisting" Edition. Or Eurotrip/Road Trip Double Feature. Just for reference.

And there it would be. Right on the DVD, right in front of your face. Because there wasn't Netflix yet or streaming services. Blu-ray wouldn't be around globally until 2006. So which are you - the customer - going to buy? Airplane! Or Airplane "Don't call me Shirley" Edition. If you like having fun at all, you're gonna go with the cool, movie quote version. And they did this for SO. MANY. MOVIES.

Luckily we recently discovered the Twitter account DVD Special Edition. We've collected some of the funniest and most ridiculous DVD covers that have ever come to fruition. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the movies.
