Get ready to play a tune on the world’s smallest waterproof violin: a family has missed their cruise ship.

In a video posted to TikTok with over 9.2 million views, user Alexis (@alexisb639) shows a cruise ship departing from port. As it does, the wails of other passengers can be heard — the siren cries of unboarded passengers begging the ship to return. The uncaring ship simply floats away, leaving the would-be sailers in tears while clutching their luggage. “When you miss your cruise by 20 minutes,” Alexis writes in the text overlaying the video.

As many commenters pointed out, it’s pretty darn hard to miss a cruise ship, leading to questions about how a situation like this could have happened in the first place. “How late do you have to be to watch the cruise ship leaving??” asked a user. “Was it a surprise cruise?” joked another. “20 mins late for the scheduled departure? boarding was HOURS AGO,” stated a third.

Alexis later posted a follow-up TikTok slideshow that, confusingly, features one image of her face while playing the 2018 song “B.E.D.” by Jacquees. Listen, I don’t get it either. Regardless, this slideshow reveals a little bit more backstory: “Flagstaff Airport screwed up the flight. Had to get the next flight to LAX. Had to be at port by 2 p.m., with traffic, got there at 2:20. S--t happens.”

Commenters still remained largely unsympathetic. “Rookie mistake, always book the flight the day before the cruise,” stated a commenter. Or, hear me out — don’t go on a cruise in the first place.
