Having to start over sucks. Losing all your gear, favorite weapons, and outfits from previous games when a sequel comes out is always miserable.
Thankfully for Hitman fans, IO Interactive listened to their community and designed an importing feature that lets you carry over your progression from the first two games in the World of Assassination trilogy to its finale.
If you want to know how to transfer your old progress to Hitman 3, here's how.
What Counts as Progression?
In Hitman, progression includes your player profile, XP rank, location mastery your weapon unlocks. Challenge progress, challenge unlocks, and elusive targets also qualify.
All of this will be able to be brought from previous Hitman titles into Hitman 3.
However, save games will not be carried over and neither will Hitman 1 Escalations. You’ll have to access them separately in Hitman 3, but they’ll be redeemable in-game once you’ve completed the unlock process.
What Do I Need to Transfer My Progress?
First, you need to ensure that the progress you want to transfer is all coming from the same platform. So Xbox can only transfer progress to Xbox, PlayStation to PlayStation, and PC to PC.
Secondly, you need to have a copy of Hitman 2 and access to all relevant content that you want to transport over to Hitman 3. You can’t transfer progress from Hitman 1 to Hitman 3, you can only transfer progress from Hitman 2 to Hitman 3.
So if you want to play Hitman 1 levels or keep your progress from Hitman 1 in Hitman 3, you’ll need to buy a Hitman Legacy Pack, which will give you access to Hitman 1 locations within Hitman 2. After you’ve bought the Legacy Pack you can transfer your progression from Hitman 2 to Hitman 3.
Be Careful When You Transfer
Transferring files is simple and easy, but you’ll want to do it before you start your Hitman 3 campaign because the transfer process will wipe away all Hitman 3 progress.
It’s also a one time deal, once you’ve performed a transfer, you won’t be able to do it again.
Your existing progress in Hitman 2 won’t be removed or deleted, but it won’t be synchronized. You’ll only gain progression in Hitman 3 after you transfer your data over.
While save games won’t transfer over, Hitman 3 has what IO Interactive is calling “legacy trophies/achievements.”
Certain trophies in Hitman 3 are tied to events from Hitman 1 and 2. So If you have certain trophies or achievements unlocked in those titles, once you’ve carried over your progress, the corresponding trophy or achievement will unlock in Hitman 3.
How To Transfer
You’ll need to have an account with the IO Interactive servers that all your progress is linked to.
Once you’ve got your account registered and you’ve linked it to your game, you’ll be able to choose to start the transfer process from Hitman 2’s data to Hitman 3.
