Have you ever noticed that all nine playable classes for Team Fortress 2 are male? Whatever the reason for it, in 2009 Valve considered adding female variants of nearly every class that ranged from motherly to downright sexy.


Valve artist Drew Wolf has published dozens of concept arts for what could have ended up being female designs in the game. These include early hand sketches for all but one class as well as fully colored mock-ups.

The idea was that every class would have a female option. Well, except for the Pyro who is considered gender neutral.

The biggest problem with this, and what likely led to it being shot down prior to production, is how it would have affected game balance. Since the female models are smaller in size, they would be more difficult to spot, making the male characters less desirable.
