It feels like the whole “letting balloons fly off into the sunset” thing was more common a few decades ago. If you think about it, it makes sense that this trend has (mostly) died: filling the air with latex is probably not the *best* for the environment, and given the current media landscape, the reaction to seeing a balloon in the sky is presently less “Aw, how nice” and more “It’s an alien, let’s shoot it down.”


However, some people are keeping the tradition alive — and their cities are suffering for it.


These kids decided to release a bunch of balloons into the sky, apparently not realizing that they were situated under a lot of power lines. Consequently, they had to say bye-bye to their electricity for the evening.
