The internet has done it again, but instead of Morbintime, it's Gentleminions. A recent running gag among young men on TikTok has been to dress up in a nice suit and head to the theater to see the new animated film "Minions: The Rise of Gru". Their videos feature upwards of twenty friends all wearing business attire with bananas in the breast pocket as they head to their local theaters. The videos are labeled, #gentleminions.

On July 1, 2022 "Minions: The Rise of Gru", part of the Despicable Me franchise, was released in theaters and young adults went in droves to support the animated film that they remember fondly as children. This is an interesting case about how TikTok can influence Hollywood ticket sales. The film exceeded box office expectations reaching over $218 million worldwide, breaking box office records for a 4th of July weekend release.

However, with anything, people felt that the #gentleminion trend was too much and some movie theaters went as far as to ban people from wearing suits to the premier saying, it took away from the other movie goers experience of the film.

Universal Pictures felt the joke was on par with the nature of the Minion films. They said on Twitter, "to everyone showing up to @Minions in suits: we see you and we love you."

It's a harmless joke that promotes a movie, how could anyone be upset for people enjoying something they love, even if it's ironic.
