Red Dead Redemption on PC.

With Red Dead Redemption 2 just months away from release, it's become clear that Rockstar Games has no interest in ever porting the original Red Dead Redemption to PC. The developers behind RPCS3 knew this would be the case years ago when it began working on the world's first PS3 emulator, a product that would effectively immortalize the third generation of PlayStation on PC hardware.

Today, the emulator is a partially working product. I say partially because most games run with unbearable frame rate, such as in the case of Red Dead Redemption which can barely scratch 10 FPS on high-end PC hardware (Intel i7, GTX 1080, etc.). Even then, it's the only hope for many of the best games of the past decade ever being playable on a PC.

In a new trailer, the RPCS3 team demonstrates its latest build with gameplay footage of more than 10 games, ranging from Skate 3 to Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and Red Dead Redemption.

The project has been a much more difficult undertaking than any of its team members originally imagined. The Cell processor architecture of the PS3 was considered mind-boggling by many developers throughout the last generation (Valve's Gabe Newell famously hated it), and that's translated into an even more complex emulation environment. In other words, even three years in the project is probably still another three years from completion.

Its latest milestone was rewriting texture instructions to utilize sRGB colorspace, fixing many of the shadow and bloom problems found in the prior version.

This latest build along with plenty of information can be found on RPCS3's official website.
