Nathaniel Peterson, who goes by Coyote on the YouTube channel Brave Wilderness, recently released a video of himself pulling large animal bones from a muddy puddle.

At first glance, Peterson and his crew thought the skull might belong to a bear or to a primate. Upon closer inspection, the team realized it was not the bones of an animal.

The crew speculated it might be fake or a prosthetic, but Coyote said he was certain it looked like a bigfoot skull. He took the skull home to further inspect it. He posted photos on Facebook with a caption saying, "Leaking pics here before they are taken down and before government/official try to cease our footage."

He followed up by saying, "Found a large primate skull in British Columbia - filmed it, cut the footage, releasing on @bravewilderness this weekend. Have kept this secret for several weeks… YES I have the skull, its currently in a secure location awaiting primatologist review."

Many people on the internet quickly debunked his belief that it was something rare or even real.

One commenter said, "I love these guys, but every now and then the thumbnails and “drama” get go overboard, I to beg they keep it real, the world needs them, for the sake of all wildlife."

Peterson later confirmed what skeptics believed that the skull was in fact a prop left there by local short filmmakers. The video of the findings has been used to teach people who to contact when making discoveries like this.

Some people felt it was in bad taste with how Peterson led the viewers on in thinking that this was a huge discovery. But many believe the message was honest.

The skull does look exactly like something from a King Kong movie and to get fans excited about something obviously fake is somewhat irresponsible. Don't believe everything you see on the internet!
