True crime is at an all-time high in popularity. With podcasts such as 'Serial' and 'Not Another True Crime Podcast', Netflix’s Dahmer, HBO’s The Jinx, we are surrounded by coverage of real-life crime. With that fascination in mind, we sourced AskReddit for some of the most intriguing and interesting unsolved mysteries. The frustrating and heartbreaking part about these cases is just that; they remain unsolved.

Asha Degree

9-year-old Asha Degree went missing on February, 14th, 2000. The peculiar circumstances surrounding her disappearance have baffled detectives for decades. Asha’s case begins with her packing up her bookbag in the early morning hours and leaving her North Carolina home in the pouring rain and heavy winds. When she was approached on the highway, Asha ran off the road and into the woods. Authorities would later state that she had been abducted, but no suspects have ever been arrested.

Brian Shaffer

The disappearance of Brian Shaffer is just as terrifying as it is confusing. Brian, a medical student at Ohio State, went missing on March 31, 2006, when Brian went out for drinks with some friends to celebrate the beginning of Spring Break. At some point in the night, he was separated from his friends, though a Columbus bar security camera showed Shaffer outside The Ugly Tuna Saloona front entrance alone. Shaffer then re-entered the bar, never to be seen again. According to reports, there were no other exits or entrances to the bar that Shaffer could have exited. It’s like he vanished into thin air.

Daniel Robinson

Daniel, an Arizona geologist who went missing from his job site in June of 2021, was last seen by a coworker. Perhaps an eerie coincidence, but Daniel and the coworker had just met each other that day. Daniel’s Jeep was found one month later rolled over in a ravine with the airbags deployed and his belongings such as phone, keys, and wallet, scattered around the vehicle. His family has since hired a private investigator to aid in the search.

The Boys on the Tracks

In 1987, 16-year-old and 17-year-old Don Henry and Kevin Ives were hit by a train in Arkansas. The two were seen by the train’s engineer laying on the tracks. Although the initial cause of death was ruled an accident, a second autopsy was ordered. It was then revealed that Don had been stabbed, and Kevin’s skull had been crushed prior to the boys being laid on the tracks. It is believed that the two were out hunting, as a rifle and flashlight were found at the scene.
