After complaining about pain and blurry vision, a California ophthalmologist was shocked to find a woman had 23 contact lenses embedded into her eye socket after forgetting to remove them every day.

In a disturbing viral video, the doctor is shown removing each contact one by one. The post's caption read, "A rare occasion when someone ‘forgot’ to remove contact lenses at night and kept on putting a new one in every morning. 23 days in a row!!! I got to deliver the contact lens bunch yesterday in my clinic."

The doctor said the disgusting amount of lenses were basically glued together under her eye for over a month.

After skipping appointments for the last two years, the 70-year-old woman was more concerned with the pain than anything else.

"My mind jumped to the possibilities of what it could be: a piece of broken contact lens, a scratch on the cornea, an infection, an eyelash, or debris from makeup. I’d only know for sure once I did the examination," the doctor said.

After prying her eyes open with a speculum, a special tool to see deeper into the eye, the doctor noticed the edges of the thin lenses.

"Asking the patient to look down again, I could see a huge, dark-purple blob of contact lenses stuck to her eye. It almost looked like a second pupil."

She used a Q-tip to coax the lenses out of the woman's eye.

"There were a lot of contact lenses — I thought this could be my Guinness Book of World Record moment. In nearly 20 years of practice, I had never seen anything like it. The patient couldn’t believe it either and asked if I was sure about the number I was counting," the doctor said.

The doctor said the woman came to her right in time before suffering permanent damage to her eyes.
