Ocarina of Time remaster on Unreal Engine 4.


If you were to ask any random 10 people what their favorite video games of all-time are, roughly six of them would tell you to STFU and go away. Of the remaining four there's a good chance that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be brought up.


Ocarina of Time wasn't just a good game, it took home most of the game of the year awards in 1998, and today is regarded as one of the greats next to Final Fantasy VII. But at this point it's pretty old, to a point where some of the people who run around saying it's the GOAT are unwilling to plug in an N64 and play it. If only it was remade with modern graphics...

While we might not ever see Ocarina of Time get a proper remake (the 3DS remaster doesn't count), a YouTuber that goes by the name CryZENx is working on remaking some of the game using Unreal Engine 4. He's already built a handful of the environments, modeled Link, and implemented some gameplay mechanics.


Better yet, he has some footage of his project for all to see:




The biggest difference comes from the lighting. Realistic lighting wasn't something that was birthed into gaming until around 2005, which was seven full years after Ocarina of Time released. You can see a huge difference in the atmosphere between before and after.


A new Zelda game hasn't been announced, although it's rumored that a remaster of an older game (i.e. Twilight Princess) will be released on Switch within the next two years.
