As video games become more like Hollywood blockbusters, we thought a list of movie adaptions would be fitting. So if you're a game developer out there and looking for something to rip off, here's a shortlist of some classic films that would make even better games.
One genre we feel is lacking the most, is prison-based video games, think how cool a Shawshank Redemption game would be.

1.
The Mask - The Mask has a few games based on it, especially on GBA. But a AAA open-world game with the same name would genuinely be a thrill. Just imagine The Mask game made by Infamous developer Sucker Punch Productions, and you’ll understand our reasoning. And think of all the cool mask variations there could be. -
2.
Undisputed - Imagine a fighting game that mixes UFC-style combat with arcade-style gameplay, and you have Undisputed, the game. Undisputed may not be the most popular fighting movie, but the combat and the prison-based storyline are a perfect fit for adaptation. Plus, who doesn’t want to be the most complete fighter in the world? -
3.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift - Need for Speed: Carbon was a Tokyo Drift rip-off, however, it didn't offer an interesting story and the drifting mechanics weren't very good. It's a pipe dream for sure, the FF franchise has such a loyal following, that if it were ever made it would move units. -
4.
Speed - Here’s another movie that has the word “video game” written all over it. The Keanu Reeves classic Speed is about an extortionist setting up situations in order to gain money. This could be a cinematic-style game with choices that’ll explore all possible story realities. Also, it's a cult classic so who wouldn't love to see this. -
5.
Event Horizon - It has been a while since a sci-fi horror game like Dead Space has made its way to consoles and PC. This is why an Event Horizon game seems like a great way not only to fill that gap but also to give gamers a look at one of the wackiest sci-fi horror movies ever. -
6.
Taxi Driver - Martin Scorsese's 70s crime drama, Taxi Driver follows Travis Bickle a veteran suffering from PTSD. This anti-hero story is a perfect fit for the open-world genre and studios like Rockstar Games or London Studio would make fine work of New York in the 70s. Imagine all the great side missions made in the style of Red Dead meets Crazy Taxi meets GTA. -
7.
The Shining - Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece is one of the best psychological horror films of all time. It's easy to see a Silent Hill-style remake, and the best team to do it would be the minds behind Resident Evil, Capcom. -
8.
Cast Away - How has this not already been made? Were not counting The Sims2; Castaway, as it wasn't a true AAA title. And with how popular sandbox survival games are, we think this is a no-brainer. Your stranded on an island surviving on the packages that wash ashore on your beach. The original story could use some tweaks and if you threw in some crazy island monsters, we think you'd have a hit on your hands. -
9.
Inglorious Bastards - Developers could pick any Quentin Tarantino at random and make a decent game if they so pleased. But an Inglorious Bastards game would give much reprieve to a stale and over-done genre. Besides titles such as Django Unchained, Kill Bill: Volume 2, or Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Bastards is one film begging to be turned into a game. Sniper Elite’s developer Rebellion Developments could probably take this one, and we know a twist on historical events would be a welcome change from many gamers. -
10.
Inception - The science-fiction action genre has reached critical mass. There is no shortage of mind-bending, alternate reality enjoying, monster-dream fighting worlds you can play on the market. But if we had to add another we'd choose, Christopher Nolan’s Inception, for the world-building and possible level structure a game with multiple dream worlds. The best developer for this would probably be Remedy, the same guys who brought us Control, though maybe that's too obvious. -
11.
The Dark Knight Series - One thing we'll never tire of is Batman titles. The more the merrier. So why isn't there a good Dark Knight trilogy? Rocksteady Studios, the team behind the Arkham series, is the obvious go-to for this remake, but does the world really need another Batman game? Yes, yes it does. -
12.
Shawshank Redemption - Shawshank Redemption was the inspiration behind the several minutes of prison playtime we got in 'A Way Out'. And it’s safe to say that was not enough. We can't be the only ones who want a coherent prison game. Hazelight Studios would be a great fit to make such a game, as they have prior experience and a history of building co-op games. Hitman’s developer IO Interactive is also a great fit to build such a detailed story-based stealth game. -
13.
Goodfellas - Do we need to explain this one? How does this game not exist? The fact that there is no good Goodfellas game is a disgrace. This 1990s crime drama deserves to be a video game and Mafia: Definitive Edition developer, Hangar 13 is the perfect one to do that. Just make it happen already! -
14.
Crank - This movie has “video game” written all over it. A studio like Sloclap or Rocksteady could do this one justice, knowing their history of building great combat in the games. But just imagine the adrenaline rush this one would be? Constantly fighting and f***ing to stay alive, while running around town seeking revenge. -
15.
Shaolin Soccer - Ever since FIFA Street took a turn downhill, there's been a huge lack of superpower-based sports games, and that's where Shaolin Soccer enters the chat. If done right, a multi-player soccer game could rejuvenate the sports genre, which if were being honest has been stale for nearly a decade. And of course EA would be the one to make it, but you know they'd figure out a way to ruin it.
