Moreover, he hangs around Mario because Mario may be the only one who could stop him if he lost control.

Luigi’s a Cold-Blooded Killer

One thing we’ve talked about before is the insanity of the original Super Mario Bros. manual. The manual claims the citizens of Mushroom Kingdom were turned into blocks.

That means Luigi (like Mario) is actually killing these citizens with every bashed block, and he’s willing to murder someone for nothing more than a spare coin.

Luigi Was Hidden Within Super Mario 64

For many years, fans believed Luigi was hidden within Super Mario 64 as a playable character.

While he was not actually in the final game, recent leaks of Nintendo development files show that the company created his sprite for the game.

And you eventually could play as Luigi in the Nintendo DS version of the game.

Why It’s the “Mario Brothers”

If one is Mario and one is Luigi, why are they called the Mario Brothers?

Some fans pointed out that in the Mushroom Kingdom, characters are usually named after an entire species (Yoshi represents all the Yoshis, Toad represents all the Toadstools, etc.).

If Mario introduced himself first (“Hi, I’m Mario, and this is my brother”), then the Kingdom might have just started calling them “the Mario Brothers” because of their weird rituals.

Luigi Was Killed By the Grim Reaper

Sometimes Nintendo helps create fan theories through bonkers advertisements.

For example, one Smash Bros. promo showed Luigi getting killed by the Grim Reaper from Castlevania.

This added fuel to the “Luigi is actually dead” theory, and Nintendo eventually had to clarify that Luigi was OK.

Luigi Is Playable in Super Mario Odyssey

Super Mario Odyssey is an amazing Mario game full of secrets. Countless fans believe that one of those secrets is a playable Luigi.

As with Super Mario 64, though, there is no way to play as everyone’s favorite green machine in this game.
