This video from the PlayStation 2 release
in 2000 is eye-opening for a number of reasons.
First, it reminds us how long insane overhyped console releases
have been going on. People have been clawing one another's faces off for more than 20 years just to be able to play new video games a little bit sooner than the rest.
Second, it shows that video game companies have never made enough consoles at launch to meet demand. This causes the most stress around launch time and empowers scalpers
to grift people out of their money.
If you think Sony or Microsoft didn't purposely plan to not make enough PS5s and Xbox Series Xs for everyone at release, you're kidding yourself. They do this to increase demand and get headlines, and sadly it works
And Phil Spencer
says he just cares about giving people their video games. Right...
